MISSION STATEMENT & PRIMARY FOCUS Family Advocates for NursingHome and HomeCare Improvement (FANHI) was founded with a primary goal of improving the quality of life and quality of care for nursing home residents, and continues to work in that area. FANHI emphasizes the effective use of Family Councils in conjunction with nursing home staff to accomplish this portion of its mission.

In recognition of the recent shift in national and state focus of long term care initiatives from nursing home placement to many kinds of diversionary programs designed to delay nursing home placement or prevent it altogether, FANHI has now broadened its mission to include participating, whenever it deems it appropriate to do so, in nonprofit home and community based care programs, with a goal to improve the quality of life for elderly and/or disabled persons, and to help them age in place with dignity and remain in their own homes as long as possible.
